As part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations, Nike is working on a special “Light Stone” colorway for its Air Max BW model, formerly known as the Air Max IV. which debuted in 1991 as a lightweight alternative to the Air Max 1. Tinker Hatfield’s Air Max BW was widely adopted in rave parties throughout the early 2000s grabbing the imagination of gabbers across Europe.
The Air Max BW’s sharp-angled line, which emphasizes speed and cutting-edge design, is one of its most recognizable aspects. The most recognizable feature of the shape, though, is the ‘Big Window’ Nike Air cushioning on the heel unit, which gives the shoe its name. The design innovation was a true representation of Nike’s change in direction in the 1990s.
This iteration of the Air Max BW mixes the colors of the world’s most valuable stones. With shades of Light Stone, Coconut Milk, and Jade Smoke all present. A mesh base is complimented by suede overlays and rubber speckled Swooshes on the sides topped with desaturated shades of pink, green, beige, and off-white. The warm colors continue down below on the Sail midsole which is mixed with Beige accents that sits atop a Jade rubber outsole. Nike branding circles the mid-foot, and a clean air bubble completes the look.
The Nike Air Max BW ‘Light Stone’ will be available at selected partner retailers and on Nike.com in the coming weeks. Taking a look at previous releases, the suggested retail price is expected to be £140.
